Drawing As Meditation

I love the process of creating art. It's a form of meditation for me. Thinking about anything else is hard when I'm lost in a drawing. I quickly enter a flow state and lose track of time.

This article from Headspace discusses the benefits of being in a flow state.

The thoughts and feelings that generally cloud our minds, such as stress, worry, and self-doubt, take a back seat when we achieve a flow state... Being in a deep flow state is often described as an intrinsically positive experience. There is no superficiality driving this force, it’s just the pleasure that comes with being in the moment and doing something that you are passionate about.

Drawing is a positive experience for me—a way to relax and calm my anxiety. It's one of the few activities that can quiet my monkey mind.

I also enjoy the problem-solving aspect of drawing. You begin with a blank page and slowly, line by line, construct an image that represents the vision you have in your head. The act of making something from nothing is highly gratifying.
