Shoutouts & Statuslog

Shoutouts & Statuslog

Scribbles has built-in support for Shoutouts and Status.lol. I love both services and have used them on several website projects.

Shoutouts

Shoutouts are things you want to shout out about on your website. Anything you like, enjoy or want to promote. Add the script to your website, and a random shoutout will be displayed when each page loads.

Scribbles makes this super easy. Enter an embed code, and a random shoutout will appear in the footer.

I'm using it to display random links from my blogroll. I like this approach better than providing a blogroll as one massive list of links, which can be overwhelming.

The admin panel for Shoutouts is simple and easy to use.

Status.lol

I use Status.lol as a microblog for posting short text updates, usually just a sentence or two. These posts are ephemeral and don't have much relevance beyond 24 hours. I don't want them to appear on my blog's timeline.

Scribbles provides a nice alternative. Just enter your status.lol/omg.lol address, and your latest status message will appear at the bottom of your site. An OMG.lol paid account is required.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see both services in action.

Blogging About Blogging

This seems to be frowned upon for some reason. I'm not sure why. I want to share my experience using different blogging platforms and web services.

When I moved my blog back to Scribbles, I promised not to overthink things. It's my blog, and I can write about whatever I want. I hope others find the posts useful, but it's okay if some don't.

I like blogging and building websites. It's a topic I'll write about often.
